Studio Night Out

Studio Night out with DE Studios

DE Studios offers “studio night out” to provide its students and staff a chance to dance in a social setting.  These outings give students a fun opportunity to practice what they’ve been learning.  We encourage them to dance with other dancers.  If they’re still shy about dancing in public, the staff will dance with them and help with any steps they may have forgotten.

Where do we go?

We pick a variety of venues and keep trying news ones.  Examples include the historic Wabasha Street Caves in St. Paul.  This event venue is built into the sandstone caves located on the south shore of the Mississippi River.  The caves have been home to mobsters, speakeasies, and now host a “Swing Night” on Thursday nights with live big-band music.   There’s always a crowd with dancers ranging in age from 15 to 90.  Other examples are Starkes, hanger dances and swing or salsa night at a restaurant/bar.

For those interested in practicing their ballroom skills (such as rumba, cha cha, foxtrot, waltz, tango), we have a number of opportunities.  First, is the USA Dance MN once a month variety dance; these are held at various ballroom studios in the Metro area.  Another regular variety dance is at the Tapestry Folkdance Center on the 1st and 3rd Sunday each month.  And, there are special events that we watch for and attend.

Benefits?

Studio Night Out helps some students to step out of their comfort zone. These students get into dancing to push past the fear of being in unfamiliar places and meeting new people.

Other students may enjoy social interaction, but have limited opportunities to go out with others.  Participating in Studio Night Out enables them to have a group to hang out with for the evening.

At these events, students have the opportunity to dance with more experienced dancer, less experienced dancers, and dancers with different styles.  All of these can help a student increase their skills and have fun at the same time.

It’s simply a great way to meet new people and share the enjoyment of dancing.
